I usually try to shop in the local, family owned businesses despite prices being a little higher than the chains in the area. However, I cannot support this business any more. While I was being rung out today, one of the family "friends" who I have seen there many times was laying across the side counter chatting with the clerk. Normal day at the Clarendon Food Mart... the friend proceeded to ask the clerk if he had to work last week at the "Day of the Freaks", obviously referring to the Gay Pride Parade that was a block away last Sunday. Instead of either standing up to the bigot, the clerk proceeded to share that luckily he didn't and that it was their best sales day in about 10 years. They then proceeded to joke back and forth that "Brian loved it". Walking home I ran into a friend that also lives in the neighborhood and recounted the story to him. He stated that a very similar incident happened to him a few years back. Obviously this isn't a one time thing but a prevailing culture in this store. If they don't like the Gays or thing we are freaks, that is fine. Survive in the neighborhood without our money. Gays and Supporters shouldn't shop here!
