According to surveys released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and IDES, the Chicago-Naperville-Arlington Heights statistical area reported an unemployment rate of just 3.2% in May, not seasonally adjusted. That's the lowest level ever for the month, according to IDES, with only a 3.0% figure in November 2019 coming in lower. The city of Chicago proper came in a bit higher at 3.6%. That's much higher than the low mark of 3.3% it hit in December 2019. The survey reflects only people who are actively seeking but have not found a job.
